July's 2nd Saturdays Will Fill Downtown Tucson With Free Music
TUCSON, Ariz., June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The July 2nd Saturdays in Downtown Tucson will feature plenty of free music with shows from the Rialto to the Fox Theatre and several places in between.
Local favorite The Grind will headline the Fox Theatre with a free performance. Doors open at 6pm and the show is from 7-9pm.
The Rialto Patio will again host Soul Celebration along with a full bar and food offerings. The Soul Celebration, a celebration of smooth jazz, R & B and gospel music, will be led by Kevin and Tanishia Hamilton. The Rialto Patio is located directly behind the King Tut exhibit, south of Congress Street and 5th Avenue. All performances are free and the activities begin at 6pm.
The Scott Avenue stage will feature 4th Street String Band (bluegrass/folk) from 6:30-7:30pm; The Imperial Blue Bloods (including local rockers Michael P., Mike Mihina and Chris Nast performing instrumental surf, soul and lounge) from 7:45-9pm; and The Modeens (Indie/Psychedelic/Rock) from 9:15-10:30pm. All performances are free.
The very popular Cricket Kid's Area will play host to the outdoor "walk in" movie theatre showing "Singing in the Rain" at approximately 7:30 pm. The Cricket jumping castle and bungee jump will be on hand to entertain children as well.
The Rialto Theatre will feature the local band Atom Heart Mother performing classic era Pink Floyd, with "Dark Side of the Moon" as the show's centerpiece. These musicians recreate the original Pink Floyd album arrangements and productions while adding their own unique chemistry. Free performances are at 8-9pm and 9:30-10:30pm.
Club Congress will feature the rock band Generationals, as well as the unique sounds of Gardens and Villa for a 21 & over performance starting at 7pm. Price is $8.
2nd Saturdays Downtown runs from 5:30-10:30pm with street musicians and entertainment lining the streets from Stone Avenue to 5th Avenue.
