FRAMINGHAM, Mass., May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rave Mobile Safety (Rave), the trusted software partner for campus and public safety, today announced Juliette Kayyem, one of the nation's leading homeland security and disaster preparedness authorities, has been named to its Advisory Board. Kayyem brings more than 15 years of experience managing complex policy initiatives and organizing response to major crises in both state and federal government. As an advisor, she will help guide Rave's continued industry leadership, marked by a record 2014 and seven consecutive years of more than 30 percent growth.
Kayyem was most recently the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs and is currently a faculty member at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. A published author on the topic of homeland security, she teaches tomorrow's emergency management and national security leaders.
"Homeland security and preparing for the unthinkable is something our country must unfortunately keep top-of-mind at all times," said Tom Axbey, chief executive officer of Rave Mobile Safety. "Having Juliette Kayyem's innovative insights into effective disaster response and emergency management is an enormous asset to our Advisory Board. Her expertise will be critical in helping guide Rave's technology and direction."
"Technology today is advancing at a tremendous rate and can absolutely be used to make our communities and neighborhoods safer," said Kayyem. "Rave continues to be at the forefront of this movement and has been very effective in helping our government agencies, institutes of higher education, and individuals themselves increase safety and better prepare for emergencies."
While at the Department of Homeland Security, Kayyem played a pivotal role in the handling of the H1N1 pandemic and the BP Oil Spill response, as well as organizing major policy efforts in immigration reform and community resiliency. Prior to that, she was the homeland security advisor to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, where she oversaw the National Guard and guided the state's first interoperability plan. She was also a member of the National Commission on Terrorism, a legal advisor to U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, and a trial attorney and counselor in the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department. Kayyem is the recipient of many government honors, including the Distinguished Public Service Award, the Coast Guard's highest medal awarded to a civilian. She is also the founder of Juliette Kayyem Solutions, LLC.
As journalist and commentator, Kayyem has a weekly segment on Boston's public radio station WGBH. For nearly eight consecutive days, she provided non-stop analysis during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings for CNN, where she continues to serve as a security analyst. In 2013, she was named the Pulitzer Prize finalist for her hard-charging editorial columns in the Boston Globe, which focused on ending the Pentagon's combat exclusion rule against women, a policy that was changed that year. Kayyem is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and the mother of three children.
