With an admittance rate of less than 7 percent, the Juilliard School is renowned as a world leader in performance arts education.
"This institution is known globally for accepting only the best musicians, and we are honored and excited to be able to present these talented artists and their music to the South Florida community," said Chelsea Chen, Artistic Director of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Concert Series.
Gregory Zelek, a native of South Florida, is a recipient of the prestigious Kovner Fellowship - a merit-based scholarship awarded to a select group of students at the Juilliard School, which covers tuition and living expenses. He is increasingly recognized as one of the most exciting young organists in the American organ scene, and, in addition to concertizing throughout the United States, he has performed with orchestras worldwide as both a soloist and professional ensemble member.
The Gregory Zelek Organ Concert will be held in the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Sanctuary on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 4 p.m. Zelek's repertoire will include Julius Reubke's epic Sonata on the 94th Psalm and John Weaver's Fantasia.
This will be Zelek's first concert in South Florida.
The following week, on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 7 p.m., the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Concert Series will continue with a concert by the Peter and Will Anderson Jazz Trio in the church's Chapel.
"The Anderson brothers are not only dynamic performers but also creative story-tellers on the history of Jazz," said Chen.
Peter and Will are twin brothers who attended Juilliard together and have gone on to have a stellar jazz career. Hailed by the New York Times as "virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone," the Anderson brothers have been performing Jazz worldwide. Their ensemble has performed in thirty U.S. States, toured Japan, and was featured four times in the famed "Highlights in Jazz" series, alongside legends Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Heath, and Wycliffe Gordon.
