NEW YORK, March 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today that Joseph Ucuzoglu has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Deloitte & Touche LLP, a subsidiary of Deloitte LLP, to lead its audit practice. Ucuzoglu succeeds Cathy Engelbert, who was named chief executive officer of Deloitte LLP last month.
"Joe's proven experience interacting with clients, regulators and elected officials, and providing strategic direction on audit quality and professional matters, are invaluable assets for leading Deloitte's audit practice as well as driving innovative change in the profession," Deloitte CEO Cathy Engelbert said. "The audit profession is at an inflection point. Capital markets, investors and regulators, and our clients and professionals, want audits that are evolving with the pace of change in the business landscape. We are committed to driving the audit process to the highest level of quality and with Joe's leadership we are positioned to help shape the future of the audit in exciting ways."
Most recently, Ucuzoglu was Deloitte's national managing partner for Government, Regulatory and Professional Matters, responsible for Deloitte's interactions with regulators and elected officials, and overseeing the organization's government affairs, public policy, independence, and ethics functions. He also serves several of Deloitte's significant clients.
A trusted expert in government and public affairs, Ucuzoglu has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors and previously served as the senior advisor to the Chief Accountant at the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).
"I am honored to lead our audit practice during a time when our profession is evolving faster than ever. Building upon Deloitte's legacy of exceptional service to the capital markets, we will lead the audit profession into the future," said Ucuzoglu. "The use of technology is transforming the audit process, allowing us to deliver enhanced levels of quality, deeper insights, and greater value to clients. Innovation – a word that has not often been associated with audit – is a key differentiator for our firm."
Ucuzoglu is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) and serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Board of Advisors of the SEC Historical Society and the Executive Committee of USC's SEC Financial Reporting Institute. He is a member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation, an independent research organization dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness of U.S. capital markets and ensuring stability of the U.S. financial system, and is active in the Center for Audit Quality, an autonomous group devoted to fostering high quality performance by public company auditors.
