Jorge Montepeque of Platts Given Lifetime Achievement Award by Energy Risk Magazine
One of 20 Recipients Since 1994 Recognized for Helping Shape the Evolution of Markets
LONDON, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jorge Montepeque, global editorial director of market reporting for Platts, a leading global provider of energy, metals, petrochemicals and agriculture information, was bestowed a 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award by Energy Risk Magazine Wednesday evening. Energy Risk Magazine is published by London-based Incisive Media, a leading global business-to-business information provider serving the financial and professional services markets.
"Energy Risk's Lifetime Achievement Awards recognise talented individuals who have made an indisputable contribution to commodity trading and risk management," said Energy Risk Magazine Editor Mark Pengelly. "There can be no doubt that Jorge's work in developing more transparent pricing has left a firm imprint on this industry."
The award is given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the commodity trading and risk management industry. Only 20 individuals have received the Lifetime Achievement Award, marking 20 years since Energy Risk was launched back in 1994.
"I'm honored to be recognized by Energy Risk staff and members of the energy industry for my efforts to develop methodologies that promote market integrity and address the industry's pricing challenges," said Montepeque, who attended the awards program in London.
In his role as global director of markets reporting, Montepeque oversees a team responsible for Platts' global price discovery and assessments processes and methodologies. Montepeque has more than 30 years of experience in the oil industry and commodity pricing, and, prior to his current position, he headed Platts' Asia editorial operations and managed several editorial commodity sectors including crude oil and petrochemicals. Montepeque began his career working for the energy consulting firm Petroleum Industry Research Associates before joining Petroleos de Venezuela working as a petroleum economist. He holds a master's degree in economics from Hunter College in New York City.
"Jorge is a longstanding champion of transparency in markets and has been instrumental to the development and evolution of Platts' price discovery processes and methodologies, which help bring efficiency to markets on a daily basis," said Larry Neal, president of Platts. "We're proud of the recognition Jorge has received and his continuing commitment to properly functioning open markets and education about those markets."
Winners were hand-picked by a judging panel consisting of Energy Risk's editorial team, with input from a select group of external industry participants. Profiles of all the winners will appear on Risk.net and in Energy Risk magazine.
"The winners of the Energy Risk Lifetime Achievement Awards join an exclusive club of current and retired industry veterans who have helped shape the evolution of the global commodity and energy markets," said Mr. Pengelly.
