Jordin Sparks Voices Support for SOS Children's Villages With Public Service Announcement
60-Year-Old Organization Continues to Garner Widespread Global Support for Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Haiti
WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SOS Children's Villages, a global organization dedicated to the long-term care and prevention of orphaned and abandoned children, today announced that Grammy-nominated recording artist Jordin Sparks will be lending her voice to boost awareness for the organization's humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti. Starting immediately, the singer will appear in a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) encouraging continued support of the organization and its urgent work in the devastated nation of Haiti. As a longtime advocate for SOS Children's Villages, Ms. Sparks' connection to the organization runs deep. When first introduced to the non-profit in 2007 by a family member who worked for SOS Children's Villages in Florida, Ms. Sparks immediately expressed interest in supporting "World Orphan Week" by designing a Swarovski-encrusted jean jacket for a celebrity auction benefiting SOS. This month, Ms. Sparks will travel to the Florida Village to visit with the children and families.
"SOS Children's Villages is on the ground, helping support children who have lost their parents and extended families and providing them with a loving, nurturing environment," said Ms. Sparks, 2007 winner of American Idol. "In a time where every effort in Haiti helps makes a difference, I ask all of you to support SOS Children's Villages so that they can continue to provide a safe haven to children at risk."
Heather Paul, CEO of SOS Children's Villages – USA, added: "We are so privileged to have Jordin Sparks as a supporter of SOS. Her dedication to making a difference in the world is evident, and her support of SOS' relief efforts will encourage others to join with us in providing shelter, comfort and care to the children of Haiti."
Ms. Sparks donates a significant portion of her time to charitable commitments. This week, she participated in recording "We are the World 2010." The 20-year-old Arizona-native recently announced that Sparks Charities will launch the "I'm MAD, Are you?" Campaign in conjunction with the 2010 Super Bowl. The goal of M.A.D. (short for "Making a Difference") is to encourage others – young and old – to get "mad" and funnel that energy into making a positive difference in their communities, families, and world.
