Jordan's Furniture Hosts Adoption Summer Mixer To Find Homes For Children In Foster Care
WORCESTER, Mass., July 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Over a hundred children in foster care, countless families from around Massachusetts and scores of social workers will all come together tomorrow, Saturday, July 23rd, at Assumption College in Worcester, MA, all with one goal in mind…to find permanent homes for some of the hundreds of older children in foster care. The event is sponsored by Jordan's Furniture and Eliot Tatelman, Jordan's President and CEO.
"Jordan's Furniture has been a part of the adoption and foster care community for over 16 years now," says Tatelman, referring to the dozens of Jordan's initiatives that have occurred over the years. "Once we saw how many kids, especially older kids, who were looking for permanent families, we started to do whatever we could to help find them a loving home."
The event at Assumption College (taking place in Worcester, due to the central location) includes a special group of guests. Private invitations were sent to families throughout Massachusetts who have already been home-studied and MAPP Trained. This means that they are ready to adopt. Invitations were also sent out to social workers of the many older children (ages 7 to 16) currently in foster care and legally ready for adoption.
The hope for "The Adoption Summer Mixer" is to make the connection between child and adult. The event includes morning workshops, a catered lunch, and an afternoon carnival. The afternoon festivities create a non-threatening atmosphere where guests can get to know each other. "We are excited to see the magic happen at our adoption event," concludes Tatelman. "These connections can change the life of both the children and the families. It is what it is all about and it is much more rewarding than just selling furniture!"
In partnership with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), Jordan's has organized dozens of adoption events and countless foster care recruitment efforts over the years. Due to these efforts, over 320 children have found permanent homes. The Jordan's projects have included underwriting adoption events, coordinating foster family recruitment programs, and financing media campaigns to bring awareness to the cause.
