CONCORD, Calif., July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Jopari Solutions, along with representatives from many of the key industry organizations, technology vendors, payers, and providers, presented to The Division of National Standards, CMS on July 18, collectively urging CMS to establish standards for Attachments. Attachment Standards have been part of the original HIPAA regulations roadmap since 1996, but have yet to be released. "There have been several NCVHS hearings exploring Attachments over the past few years which Jopari has testified in support of attachment standards. In July of last year, NCVHS sent another letter of recommendation to HHS stating the 'Time is Now' for the adoption of standards for electronic attachments," shares Steve Stevens, CEO for Jopari. "On Tuesday, the entire group was united in their messaging to CMS that the adoption of attachment standards supports HHS key objectives to reduce administrative cost and increase the efficiencies of the healthcare delivery system," adds Stevens.
Sherry Wilson, EVP and Chief Compliance Officer, as well as Chair of the Cooperative Exchange (the national clearinghouse organization) played a key role in organizing the session, lead the session as well as delivered the Cooperative Exchange's input on this matter. Don St. Jacques, SVP of Business Development, provided Jopari's insight as to the Property and Casualty industry's many years of experience with delivering attachments electronically to payers absent formal standards, and shared some insightful ROI statistics.
Stevens says, "We are fully in support of CMS moving ahead with the attachment standards. It will finally level the playing field as to what is needed. Every provider and payer we talk to is still having to cope with growing amounts of paper documentation, and as we have seen from our experience, the ability to share electronically streamlines the process, reduces frictional waste, while improving both revenue cycle and customer satisfaction metrics. Plus, this problem is much bigger than just claims attachments. Other administrative tasks and clinical data requests like Pre-Authorization, medical records requests, post-payment reviews and the list goes on add to the mountains of paper moving between stakeholders."
