COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Cybersecurity Center (NCC), a non-profit dedicated to educating governments, academia and private businesses on cyberattack prevention, announced today that Jonathan Steenland has joined the organization as Chief Operating Officer. Steenland, who most recently served as Principal of CISO Services with Zyston, brings more than 20 years of experience to his new role.
"We're thrilled to have an executive of Jonathan's caliber on the NCC team," said Vance Brown, CEO of the NCC. "With a background that includes overseeing global operations and providing consulting services at the highest levels as well as working with universities and national defense, he brings a wealth of expertise to the table. Just as importantly, Jonathan has an amazing vision for the future of our industry. We look forward to working with him."
In addition to his prior role at Zyston, Steenland served as Chief Information Security Officer at Fujitsu, where he developed strategic security programs for a global business comprising 500 companies and 170,000 employees worldwide. Steenland also served as Fujitsu's first Chief Security Officer in the Americas and led the development of many global security programs, including the Advanced Security Innovation Center.
Before joining Fujitsu, Steenland worked for the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Army. He served as Executive Vice President of the North Texas chapter of InfraGard, an FBI-sponsored public-private partnership that shares information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the U.S. He is currently a Governing Board Member for the Security Advisor Alliance, an organization that facilitates partnerships within the information security community.
"The NCC provides the best opportunity to make a positive impact I've seen in two decades in the industry," Steenland said. "I'm looking forward to working on public policy and cyber awareness issues, job creation initiatives and cyber workforce development projects to train the next generation of cyber professionals. Threats are growing worldwide, but by working together, we can fulfill the NCC's purpose to 'Secure the World,' and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Steenland joins the team during the NCC's third annual Cyber Symposium, which is underway in Colorado Springs. The event raises awareness about cyber dangers and the innovations and emerging technologies that can mitigate risks. This year's event features Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who founded the NCC, and former CIA and NSA Director General Michael Hayden.
