NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Friends of Jonathan Roth announced the formation of The Jonathan Roth Fund (www.jonathanrothdefensefund.com) which has been established in an emergent effort to raise funds to provide essential day to day living and trial costs for Jonathan, who was arrested on August 6, 2012 in Nassau County, NY (Docket # 017682).
"Jonathan is the victim of a lifetime of abuse at the hands of his father. He has been emotionally beaten so badly that his codependency has now caused him to be implicated in his father's bizarre scheme," said Kristie Mayleas, Jonathan Roth's long-time girlfriend.
Jonathan is the son of Raymond Roth, the New York man accused of faking his own death by disappearing while going for a swim off Long Island. Days after his disappearance, Raymond Roth was stopped going 90 mph and given a speeding ticket in Santee, S.C. The officer who issued the ticket saw that Roth was listed in a national registry of missing people. Roth said he was returning to New York, and the officer let him proceed north.
"It's astonishing that a father would effectively throw his own son under the bus in an attempt to hoodwink the public, and the Court, of his own alleged criminal activities. I am confident that the transparency of this coercion and manipulation will be self-evident once the facts of this case are presented," said attorney Joey Jackson who represents Jonathan Roth.
"When Jon's father was finally arrested he was able to call his brother and raise a $100,000 cash bond without blinking an eye. But Jonathan, his own son, languished in jail for days to raise a small fraction of that. Clearly his father has no regard for his son's well-being and has created a divide between Jonathan and the rest of the family to block any assistance they would have offered Jonathan so that instead he can benefit from their help. It's unimaginable that someone is so absolutely evil that they would do this to their own child," said Ms. Mayleas who cares for children with developmental disabilities.
