Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Companies Launches New Beauty Innovation
1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses Create a New Category of Eye Enhancement Contact Lenses
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. introduces a new daily disposable contact lens that delivers a first-to-market beauty benefit in the United States. New 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses with LACREON® Technology merges vision correction and beauty through iris inspired patterns to heighten the appearance and brightness of the eyes.
The ACUVUE® Brand product development team talked to thousands of women to better understand what they want in a beauty contact lens. Those conversations validated the need for a contact lens that would enhance the appearance of the natural eye. The resulting 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ effects were specifically designed to enhance a diverse range of eyes through added highlights, contrast and definition to the iris when worn.
The lenses create a more radiant eye in two ways: first, by providing a defining outline around the limbal ring (the outline around the iris) to amplify the contrast between the iris and the sclera (the white of the eye). Independent clinical research done by the University of California Irvine shows that people with prominent limbal rings are perceived as more attractive, as limbal rings are associated with a healthy and youthful appearance.1 Second, iris-inspired designs with light effect patterns add depth and dimension without changing the eye's natural coloring.
"1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ is the first contact lens that gives consumers a choice to not only improve their vision, but also create a more radiant eye appearance," said Laura Angelini, President, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. "This launch is a business opportunity for eye care professionals by addressing an unmet consumer desire for natural-looking eye enhancement."
1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ is available in three effects that work for all eye colors:
- NATURAL SPARKLE™
- NATURAL SHIMMER™
- NATURAL SHINE™
1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ was built using best-in-class technology found in 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand Contact Lenses, the number one daily disposable brand worldwide. As with all ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ provides UV protection, blocking approximately 97% of UVB rays and 81% of UVA rays*†.

Important Information for Contact-Lens Wearers
1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses are available with and without vision correction. An eye care professional will determine whether contact lenses are right for you. Although rare, serious eye problems can develop while wearing contact lenses. To help avoid these problems, follow the wear and replacement schedule and the lens care instructions provided by your eye doctor. Do not wear contact lenses if you have an eye infection, or experience eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, redness or other eye problems. If one of these conditions occurs, contact your eye doctor immediately. You should never share your lenses with anyone else. For more information on proper wear, care and safety, talk to your eye care professional and ask for a Patient Instruction Guide, call 1-800-843-2020 or visit Acuvue.com.
†Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye.
* WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-Blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-Blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
