Johnson & Johnson Settles Over 100 Transvaginal Mesh Tape and Sling Cases, Says Lawsuitsettlementnews.com
Lawsuit website reports recent settlement where more than 100 vaginal mesh cases were settled by J&J, although the amount they settled for is undisclosed.
ATLANTA, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MT Services LLC, a Lawsuit Settlement News Reporting Company which operates lawsuitsettlementnews.com, announced today that Johnson and Johnson recently agreed to settle over 100 lawsuits regarding their Mentor unit manufactured transvaginal mesh tape and sling devices. The lawsuits claim that the TVM (transvaginal mesh) devices caused permanent injuries for the women plaintiffs involved. The settlement was reached in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, however, J&J chose not to disclose the amount of money they agreed to pay to the 111 plaintiffs involved, and the exact terms of the settlement remain unknown.
The cases were consolidated in multidistrict litigation (MDL) before Judge Clay Land. The suits were in relation to the Mentor ObTape Transobturator Sling. Despite the settlement and the fact that the sling was discontinued in 2006, J&J maintains that the sling is a safe product. There are still hundreds of other cases pending before Judge Clay Land, with six bellwether cases set for trial in October and November.
Chris Janish, CEO of MTS commented on the recent J&J settlement, "The Mentor ObTape Transobturator settlement is a significant one, not for the amount of cases or the settlement value or amounts, but because it shows a willingness by J&J to begin the process of settling at least some of their TV-Tape or bladder sling cases. The TVT Sling products are not considered to be the higher value of the transvaginal mesh cases, however the bottom line is that the plaintiffs of these settled cases will now get some relief."
