Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc.'s Care To Recycle Program and Scholastic Launch Nationwide Educational Campaign and Contest
Contest Offers Students and their Teachers or Parents the Chance to Win $10,000 in Prizes
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Oct. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Care To Recycle®, a program of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., today announced the launch of a nationwide educational campaign and contest in collaboration with Scholastic to teach kids about the importance of recycling throughout the house, including the bathroom.
The campaign, which is geared toward children in grades 1-3, includes several lesson plans for teachers – featuring ELA (English, Language, Arts), Math, and Science topics – as well as take-home student activities for parents, and other resources to educate students about recycling.
The contest, PETE's Bathroom Bin Challenge, is open to students and teachers nationwide and runs through October 27, 2015. Students are asked to write a short essay accompanied by a poster that shares why recycling personal-care products, such as shampoo and lotion bottles, is important, and how they will encourage their family to recycle more of these products. Either a teacher or a parent must submit their student or child's entry form.

A total of ten grand prize winners, including both the student and the submitter, will be selected to receive the following prizes*:
- Student Winners: Each winning student will receive one (1) of each of the following – a kid's bike and helmet, and a Family National Parks pass
- Teacher or Parent Winners: Each winning student's parent or teacher will receive one (1) $500 gift card and one (1) Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. product gift pack
*Approximate Retail Value Per Prize: $1,000
Students must attend a public, accredited private or home school in the 50 U.S. states or District of Columbia. Entries must be postmarked by October 27, 2015. Winners will be announced on November 15, 2015 in celebration of America Recycles Day[i]. No purchase necessary, void where prohibited. See official contest rules.
Although almost 70 percent of Americans say they consistently recycle, only 20 percent report recycling products from the bathroom[ii]. Since many Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. products are used and stored in this room, the company saw an opportunity to raise awareness of recycling these products to help avoid valuable materials from unnecessarily entering landfills. Thus, the Care To Recycle® program was launched.
