Johns Hopkins University Reducing Energy Costs and Carbon with On-Site Utility
New Energy System Part of Campus GHG Reduction Plan
WALTHAM, Mass., Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- American DG Energy Inc. (NYSE MKT: ADGE), a leading On‑Site Utility, offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling solutions to hospitality, healthcare, housing and athletic facilities, is now operating a 75 kW combined heat and power (CHP) system providing an On-Site energy solution to Wolman Hall student housing at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Through this Purchase of Power Agreement, Wolman Hall will receive a portion of its electricity and hot water from a 75 kW CHP system, which is owned and operated by American DG Energy. The University receives a guaranteed discount on the energy produced by the CHP system while reducing their carbon footprint and is only paying for the energy produced while they avoided all capital, installation and maintenance costs. The CHP system will produce up to 592,000 KWh of electricity and 3,900 million BTU of useable heat annually in the form of hot water.
Utilizing a highly efficient CHP unit, Johns Hopkins will offset up to 415 tons of CO2 per year. The new CHP system at Wolman Hall is part of the University's commitment reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2025.
