A seasoned Johnny Rockets franchisee who operates Johnny Rockets restaurants at Guadalajara and Toluca Airports in addition to the now-three Cancun International Airport locations, Aguirre's expansion plans were right on schedule. "When I opened my first restaurant at Cancun International Airport in May 2007, I was confident that travelers would embrace the concept of enjoying juicy hamburgers, classic sandwiches and hand-dipped shakes before or after their flights," explained Aguirre, president of Cancun-based Mera Corporation. "Since then, my original belief has been substantiated by the vast number of people who visit our airport restaurants each day. The demand for classic Americana remains high, and guests on-the-go appreciate our tasty food options, authentic decor, and quick service."
According to a CNNTravel article from July 2011, international tourism to Mexico increased 2.1 percent in the first five months of 2011 compared to 2010, and the country held its top spot for Americans traveling abroad. "The spirited Johnny Rockets ambiance is well suited for environments in which people go to have fun - and Cancun remains a premier destination for fun vacations," said Steve Devine, senior vice president of international development for Johnny Rockets. "Our strong airport presence allows us to welcome and top-off vacations to the 'Mexican Caribbean,' as well as give traveling locals the opportunity to enjoy our all-American fare and vivacious service."
The tenth airport location – and fifth in Mexico - that the international restaurant chain has opened worldwide over the past 25 years, this newest restaurant is located in the main food court in Terminal 2, after travelers pass through the security checkpoint. It employs 28 local residents, and is open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. or the last flight arrives.
