60th Anniversary: Classic Singles and Favorite Songs is a new 4-CD box set that presents a comprehensive look at the singer's beloved U.S. top 20 Pop and Adult Contemporary hit singles and songbook standards alongside fan favorites, new-to-CD rarities and Johnny's own personal picks from over the years. The collection will be made exclusively available as a gift for viewers who make a pledge of support to their public television channel.
Mathis has been a household name since the summer of 1957 when he first appeared on America's television screens. Mathis released a string of hits via Columbia Records, singing beautiful and romantic ballads, classic standards and the best songs from Broadway musicals. It was not uncommon for Mathis to have as many as four albums on the Billboard Top Albums chart at the same time. In late 1959, he recorded a song that became synonymous with the name of Johnny Mathis, the Erroll Garner composition, "Misty".
Mathis is one of the few recording artists to have Top 40 hits spanning each of his first four decades as a recording artist. Mathis has received five Grammy nominations during his career, and has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame three times for "Chances Are", "Misty", and "It's Not For Me To Say". He has also been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
