COLUMBIA, S.C., Feb. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Colorado Governor and potential 2020 presidential hopeful John Hickenlooper will be in South Carolina this week to speak at the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) Annual Meeting. His address will be open to the media as Governor Hickenlooper introduces himself to South Carolina healthcare leaders and voters.
A laid off geologist who started a brewpub, John Hickenlooper is a lifetime entrepreneur who ran, and won, as a "dark horse" for Mayor of Denver in 2003. In 2005 TIME Magazine named him one of the top five big-city mayors in America. He ran winning campaigns for Governor in 2010 and 2014 -- two of the worst cycles for Democrats in 25 years -- and is leaving 16 years of service to Colorado as the most popular outgoing Governor in 50+ years, with an approval rating of 59%.
As Colorado Governor, he prioritized healthcare and expanded Medicaid so that more than 94% of Coloradoans now have health insurance. Considered a contender in the 2020 presidential race, his combination of small business background, proven executive experience, and progressive policy accomplishments has already generated significant buzz in the national media.
Governor John Hickenlooper will address the 2019 SCHA Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 6 at 11am at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center located at 1101 Lincoln Street in Columbia, SC. His keynote address is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and will be open to the media. This event is in no way an endorsement for a political candidate and SCHA is proud to offer opportunities for its members to hear from state and national leaders.
Founded in 1921, the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) is the leadership organization and principal advocate for the state's hospitals and healthcare systems. Based in Columbia, SCHA works with its members to improve access, quality, and cost-effectiveness of health care for all South Carolinians. The state's hospitals and healthcare systems employ more than 70,000 persons statewide. Learn more about SCHA at www.scha.org.
