John Deschner Joins TBWA\Chiat\Day LA As Chief Innovation Officer And Managing Director
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- TBWA\Chiat\Day President Erin Riley announced today that the agency has hired industry veteran John Deschner as Chief Innovation Officer and Managing Director. A newly created hybrid role at the agency, Deschner will be charged with furthering the company's digital and content capabilities, as well as implementing inventive platforms and processes beyond digital to ensure that innovation is woven into the very fabric of the agency, from operations to accounts to culture. He will serve as a key leader across departments, while directly overseeing key digital functions, including creative technology, integrated production and social media management and strategy. A member of the agency executive team, Deschner will report directly to Riley.

The move marks Deschner's return to Los Angeles from Kuala Lumpur, where he has served as CEO of Ogilvy Malaysia since August 2015, overseeing several agencies including Ogilvy & Mather, OgilvyOne, Ogilvy PR, Hogarth + Ogilvy, and Bates CHI & Partners, and while helping the agency group grow and develop their digital and content capabilities.
Prior to joining Ogilvy, Deschner spent nearly four years at Deutsch LA, rising to the role of EVP, Executive Director of the agency's digital account management group. He was responsible for the health, growth and success of all major digital initiatives for clients such as HTC, Volkswagen, Target and Nintendo, and also helped to develop and lead the agency's invention practice.
Deschner also served as head of client services and business development for AKQA in Washington, D.C., where he managed a 25-person team and oversaw relationships with key clients including United States Postal Service, Volkswagen and Delta Air Lines. He also spent time in a management supervisor role at Crispin Porter + Bogusky where he led interactive on the Domino's Pizza business.
A native of Montana, Deschner began his career as a graphic designer/animator, and later, an interface designer and technical project manager in Washington before his foray into advertising.
