John Deere Factory Celebrates 100th Anniversary
Horicon Works Achieves a Century of Manufacturing Excellence
HORICON, Wis., Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Very few factories can boast a 100-year history, but John Deere Horicon Works, located in Horicon, Wisc., has achieved this significant milestone. From horse-drawn grain drills, to the latest in lawn care equipment and utility vehicles, Horicon Works has built a reputation for manufacturing durable and reliable products for generations of John Deere customers.
"100 years of successful business is a great accomplishment. It is a true testament to the skill and ability of the past and present employees of the Horicon Works," said Steve Johnson, factory manager. "We are extremely proud to be celebrating our history and heritage with both Deere & Company and the city of Horicon, Wisconsin."
The city of Horicon has supported John Deere since 1911 as a community built on a strong work ethic, where people take pride in doing their job well. This work ethic is apparent from the quality products rolling off the assembly lines at the Horicon Works including Select Series™ riding lawn tractors and Gator™ Utility Vehicles.
From the stamping of each steel mower deck and frame to the packaging of each machine for shipment to dealers, and eventually customers, the employees at Horicon abide by the highest quality assurance standards.
Prior to becoming mayor in 1996, Jim Grigg worked for John Deere Horicon Works for 25 years.
"I know from personal experience how dedicated the residents of Horicon are to building quality products for John Deere," said Grigg. "In fact, the first thing visitors see when they come to Horicon is a John Deere sign. This anniversary truly highlights the great contributions the people of Horicon have made to John Deere over the last 100 years."
