John Curtis (River Ridge, LA) Rises To No. 5 In USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 National Football Rankings

MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- John Curtis (River Ridge, LA) climbed to No. 5 in this week's USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 national high school editorial football rankings, with Manatee (Bradenton, FL) maintaining its hold on the No. 1 spot for a second straight week.
The full Super 25 rankings appear in today's print edition of USA TODAY Sports, and are also available online at the newly re-launched USA TODAY High School Sports (www.usatodayhss.com).
The USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 is now in its 30th year as the most prestigious high school ranking platform in the nation. Gatorade is the Official Fuel of the Super 25 rankings platform, which includes computer rankings of every major high school football, baseball, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls lacrosse team in the nation.
John Curtis which began last week, ranked No. 6 in the Super 25, moving up in the rankings after a 33-3 throttling of Plant (Tampa, FL), which had been ranked No. 7.
For Manatee, QB Cord Sandberg passed for 264 yards, threw for three TDs and ran for another in a 49-7 Friday night road win at Riverview (Sarasota, FL), helping the Hurricanes solidify their place atop the Super 25 for the second week in a row.
No. 12 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) made one of the biggest moves within the Super 25 this week, jumping from No. 17 as QB Baker Mayfield passed for three TDs in a 49-7 home win over Canyon (New Braunfels, TX).
Also making a big move is No. 15 Butler (Matthews, NC), which beat Vance (Charlotte, NC) 48-6 this weekend on the strength of QB Riley Ferguson's 279 passing yards and three TDs to move up from No. 22.
Four schools are making their first appearances this season in the Super 25—DeSoto (TX) at No. 17; Hoover (AL) at No. 22; St. Ignatius (Cleveland, OH) at No. 24; and Bolingbrook (IL) at No. 25.
