The fire occurred on November 21, 1980 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino (now Bally's Las Vegas) in Paradise, Nevada. The fire killed 85 people, most through smoke inhalation. Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Wawerna has attained extensive expertise in the areas of Personal Injury, Domestic, and Criminal Law. 

While pursuing his educational endeavors, Mr. Wawerna attended Colorado State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Thereafter, Mr. Wawerna would go on to attain his Master of Science Degree in Forensic Science from George Washington University. He later garnered his Juris Doctorate from the California Western School of Law.

Licensed to practice in Nevada and Colorado, and admitted in 1978, Mr. Wawerna is a distinguished member of the Nevada and U.S. District Court, District of Nevada, 1980, U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit 1989, and U.S. Supreme Court California.
