WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ambassador John Bolton makes first endorsements in Nebraska with his support of U.S. Senate candidate Ben Sasse, and House candidate Rep. Lee Terry (NE-2). Additionally, the John Bolton PAC makes a maximum donation to both candidates' campaigns. Sasse, who was named a "rising star" by the National Review, is running for Senate in the seat being vacated by Sen. Mike Johanns, while Terry is running for election to Nebraska's 2nd District, which he has held since 1998.
"Nebraska is an important state for the GOP and country come November," Bolton said. "The Keystone XL pipeline travels right through the Cornhusker State, and it is a vital part of America's energy and national security policies. We need to win these two elections as it is imperative we have the right elected officials in Washington."
Statements on each candidate:
Bolton on Sasse: "Ben has exceptional experience and has proven himself as a future leader of the Republican Party. Formerly the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a national security advisor to the Department of Homeland Security, and the current President of Midland University, Ben is a leader and has the right vision for Nebraska."
Bolton on Terry: "Lee is a staunch defender of U.S. national security policy abroad and at home. He is a leader in helping America obtain energy security and independence, and he fully understands how President Obama's misguided energy policies negatively impact our national security. Lee has represented Nebraska well for over a decade, and he will continue to be an important conservative leader in the House for the years to come."
Bolton is committed to supporting candidates for elected office who believe in protecting American freedoms by securing U.S. interests in a challenging world. The John Bolton PAC and the John Bolton Super PAC have raised more than $6 million to date with nearly $3 million cash on hand.
Statements from each candidate:
Ben Sasse: "I am honored to have Ambassador Bolton's endorsement. Government's first duty, protecting us from enemies foreign and domestic, depends on our ability to gather intelligence on some of the world's most dangerous regions and analyze that information with precision and speed. The Nebraskans serving in U.S. Strategic Command play a critical role in this work and deserve a Senator who will champion their mission."
Rep. Lee Terry: "Ambassador Bolton and I believe in American exceptionalism. Our nation can and should always be in a position to lead the world on issues of freedom and prosperity, and we should have the will and strength to back it up. I am very pleased and honored to have him support my campaign in this way."
