John Barrett to Establish New Flagship in Landmark Mansion
NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Long a destination atop Bergdorf Goodman, John Barrett announces the future relocation of its flagship salon to the Edey Mansion, a tony Manhattan townhouse located at 10 West 56th street that was once the home of Elizabeth Taylor. Barrett will retain a smaller, more intimate space at Bergdorf Goodman where he will remain the exclusive hair stylist.
"We are enormously grateful for our long standing partnership with Bergdorf Goodman. I owe an incredible debt of gratitude to Dawn Mello who gave me a phenomenal opportunity when she handed me the keys to the Goodman penthouse two decades ago," says Barrett.
The new headquarters of John Barrett, the largest luxury salon in the United States, is a stately, six-story 16,000 square foot building constructed during the grand Belle Epoque era, in the Beaux-Arts style.
"The Belle Epoque was the last era of absolute luxury."

Designed by the architectural firm Warren & Wetmore, most notably associated with the design of Grand Central Terminal and Steinway Hall, the John Barrett Mansion will house a new 9,000 sq. ft. John Barrett salon, an industry-leading training and educational facility, executive offices in its penthouse, as well as 3,500 sq. ft. of luxury retail space. "Given our growth trajectory, the luxurious setting, the grandeur and the mansion's proximity to our long-standing customers from the Bergdorf Goodman penthouse, this property makes perfect sense for us," says Jim Hedges, CEO.
The famous edifice features a grand sculptural palladium window rising 20 feet, with an elegant cartouche and keystone at the centerpiece of the design on the facade's second level. A sweeping, romantic marble staircase, soaring plaster-encrusted ceilings, antique Venetian chandeliers, a ballroom and a formal garden terrace are just a handful of the fashionable home's attributes.
John Barrett has selected architect, Daniel Romualdez to lead the renovation of the building. "Our new flagship will redefine the luxury salon experience creating the most exceptional beauty destination in New York, if not the country," asserts Hedges.
