Joe Foss Institute's 2012 Stars in Service Event to Honor National Heroes and Public Servants
Bozeman Event to Build Awareness for Institute's Activities and Programs to Teach Students About Patriotism, Public Service, Integrity and an Appreciation for America's Unique Freedoms and History
BOZEMAN, Mont., July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, August 25, the Joe Foss Institute (JFI) will hold its 2012 Stars in Service event at Copper Spring Ranch in Bozeman, Montana. In addition to honoring some preeminent national heroes and public servants, the Stars in Service event is designed to introduce JFI and its programs to Montanans in order to highlight our work to educate our nation's youth about their rights, roles and responsibilities as American citizens.
"At the Joe Foss Institute, we are stepping into the educational gap and investing in our future leaders," said JFI President & CEO Lucian Spataro, Jr. "Our Veterans Inspiring Patriotism program, standards-based civic curriculum, and scholarship programs are all provided free to schools and youth organizations across the nation."
Through in-class presentations by our nation's Veterans, curriculum resources, and scholarship programs, JFI works with schools and youth organizations to address what former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has called "a crisis in civic education" across the country.
"For me, Joe always personified the idea of American public service and patriotism," explained renowned journalist, author and JFI Advisory Board member, Tom Brokaw, who will be the keynote speaker for the event. "Now that Joe is gone, it is up to the rest of us to advance the work of the Joe Foss Institute; which will make plain to generations of students and young people how important it is to be a patriot and a dedicated citizen of this country."
The four honorees for the 2012 Stars in Service event include: Col. Greg Gadsen, 2012 Patriotism Award Honoree, Hon. Don Hargrove, 2012 Military Service Honoree, Donna "DiDi" Foss, JFI Co-Founder, Bruce H. Wendt, 2012 Public Service Honoree.
