Joe Foss Institute Launches National Video Scholarship Contest
Winning video to receive $10,000 scholarship to college
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Joe Foss Institute (JFI) announced that it is accepting entries for its latest video scholarship contest for high school students nationwide – the theme: Why our freedoms, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights are worth defending.
The Joe Foss Institute, whose mission is to educate America's youth on the uniqueness of our country's freedoms and to inspire them to public service, launched the video scholarship program to harness the creative abilities of teens and allow them to tell their story through a format they are comfortable with - video. JFI also offers essay scholarship contests, which to-date have awarded more than $80,000 in scholarship money.
"As we are continue to expand our programs across the country, we want to ensure they are relevant in today's educational environment," said Dr. Lucian Spataro, Jr., President & CEO of the Joe Foss Institute. "Our hope is the process of creating these videos will inspire students to more fully appreciate our freedoms, and to act, lead and pursue public service."
High school students are asked to create and submit a video, no more than three minutes in length explaining why our founding documents matter to all Americans. The submission period closes November 11, 2012. The public voting period will begin November 12 and run through December 16, 2012. The top seven finalists will be judged by a panel using the following criteria: creativity and originality; theme development, including an incorporation of importance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights; video quality; and compliance with the contest rules. The winner will be announced by February 8, 2013, and receive a $10,000 scholarship with second and third place getting a $1,000 and $500 scholarship respectively.
