ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy announced the first major expansion of the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy in the peer-reviewed journal's 20-year history, with an increase in circulation from 15,000 to more than 32,000 and number of issues from nine to twelve. This is the latest step in AMCP's strategic plan to provide the latest and most authoritative research to improve patient outcomes and health care affordability.

"JMCP expansion is exactly what today's managed care practitioner needs to navigate this new world of ever more expensive medicines, breakthrough scientific discovery and payer and patient demands for accountability and performance," said AMCP CEO Edith A. Rosato, RPh, IOM, who's also JMCP publisher. "More readers, more articles and more relevant topics enhance our ability to shape health care through evidence-based and cost-effective formulary decision-making."
The Academy is making a significant investment in JMCP to grow its circulation and raise its visibility as a cutting-edge venue for high-quality, timely medical literature. Later this year JMCP will unveil a greatly improved digital platform and redesign of its cover. This month it introduced new feature providing up-to-date drug utilization data and analysis. In 2013 three new assistant editors were added, as the number of article submissions increased by 90 percent.
"Expansion lets us reach a much broader audience than Academy members," said JMCP editor-in-chief John Mackowiak, PhD. "Today the Journal is reaching the expanding group of practitioners who share responsibility for pharmacy products in managed care – a group that includes medical directors and decision-makers in specialty pharmacy, ACOs and other care delivery models."
