CAMBRIDGE, England, Nov. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ProQuest has teamed with Jisc to create a custom ebooks collection that provides key texts for Further Education ("FE") Institutions across the UK. The move expands the relationship between ProQuest and Jisc that already provides access to more than 400 ebooks to more than 400 colleges across the UK. The new special collection of 73 titles has been created using content from such publishers as Hodder Education, Bloomsbury, Taylor & Francis, and Pearson, and focuses on core subjects on the syllabus for A Level, BTEC and NVQ students.
"The Jisc ebooks for FE service is committed to providing essential resources to learners and practitioners at all levels within the FE and Skills sector. Chosen through extensive community consultation, these e-books have been selected for their relevance and currency and continue to be free at the point of use. These new titles not only help to provide an up to date service, but also offer learners the opportunity to access content at any time and from any location," said Catherine John, FE and Skills Licensing Manager, Jisc Collections.
The books are currently accessible through ProQuest's ebrary platform, which provides full integration of search results with a variety of third-party federated search products. Covering a variety of subjects including business studies, engineering, health and social care, and fashion and textiles, the books have been specifically chosen to enhance the research productivity of students across the UK.
"We are committed to providing essential research materials for students at all levels and our partnership with Jisc allows us to reach students across the country," said Kevin Sayar, ProQuest Senior Vice President and General Manager, Books. "The new collection supports the Jisc's subscription model that ensures new editions are available on a regular basis, keeping the collection current."
With more than 14 years of input from librarians, publishers and end-users, the ebrary platform enables researchers to easily find answers, 24/7, from all devices including the iPad®, iPhone®, iPod touch® and all Androids. Currently integrating with EBL Ebook Library, fellow ebook pioneer and ProQuest business, the two companies will offer an unparalleled ebook experience in the new ProQuest Ebook Central® service. Debuting in 2015, ProQuest Ebook Central will offer an exceptionally wide content offering, innovative and flexible acquisition models, and complete end-to-end workflow solutions. Customers are benefitting from the ongoing enhancements to both the ebrary and EBL platforms, including the new LibCentral administrative and acquisition module and the new ebrary Reader.
