JINSA To Honor Senator Lindsey Graham With The Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award
Six Young Military Heroes also to Receive JINSA's Grateful Nation Award
WASHINGTON, Nov. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- JINSA proudly announces that the recipient of the 2012 Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award is Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina. The awards ceremony will take place in Washington, D.C. on December 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
Graham, a member of the Armed Services, Appropriations, Budget, and Judiciary Committees, is one of only three U.S. senators serving in uniform. He currently serves in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Colonel assigned as a Senior Instructor at the Air Force JAG School.
The same evening, JINSA will present the 2012 Grateful Nation Award. Established in 2003, this award is presented annually to six warriors recognized for having distinguished themselves through superior conduct in the War on Terrorism. Honorees are chosen by their respective service and come from the enlisted, noncommissioned officer and junior officer ranks. They represent each of the five branches of the U.S. military and the U.S. Special Operations Command.
JINSA's Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award was created to recognize and thank leaders whose careers have been distinguished by the principle that is the foundation of JINSA's work; the belief that the United States requires a strong military capability for both its own security and for that of trustworthy friends and allies. This was the cornerstone of the late Senator Jackson's visionary policy and it guides JINSA today. Past recipients of the award include Senator Daniel K. Inouye; General Peter Pace, USMC, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense; Senator Jon Kyl; and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Admiral James G. Stavridis.
