Jingdezhen Holds Kiln Reactivation Ceremony for Ming and Qing Dynasty Royal Kilns: the Blue and White, Dragon Pattern Vat and Wind and Fire Kilns

JINGDEZHEN, China, Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The kiln reactivation and certification ceremony for the  Blue and White Kiln, the Dragon Pattern Vat Kiln and the  Wind and Fire  Kiln, three royal kilns built and used during the Ming and Qing dynasties, was held at the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Museum on the morning of October 22, 2013. Officials including Liang Gaochao, CPPCC Chairman of Jingdezhen, Wang Ligeng, member of Standing Committee of Municipal Committee of Jingdezhen and Chief of Publicity Department of Municipal Committee of Jingdezhen and Zhang Chunping, deputy mayor of Jingdezhen, were present at the ceremony.

Amid praises and cheers from the on-site attendees, kilnmen moved the exquisite masterpieces, which had previously undergone firing at the three kiln sites, to the certification stage. Ye Peilan, a well-known ceramics expert from Beijing's Palace Museum, Chen Runmin, head of the ceramics team at the Palace Museum, Li Jian'an, head of the Archaeology Institute of Fujian Museum, Ren Zhilu, head of the Archaeology Authentication Institute of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, Li Jianmao, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Museum, Li Kecheng from Peking University, Lu Wenhu, former director of the Art College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Wang Yongqing, deputy secretary general of China National Arts and Crafts Society, Jiang Jianxin, head of Jingdezhen Ceramics Archaeology Institute, and other ceramics experts took part in the on-site certification. The works from the three kilns were deemed excellent in terms of padding and glazes as well as form and transparency, demonstrating Jingdezhen's outstanding porcelain shaping and firing techniques and evidence of a successful reactivation.

At the end of the ceremony, Wang Ligeng, on behalf of the Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government of Jingdezhen, donated a piece of precious porcelain to world champion winner Cheng Fei. Since 2009, work has been ongoing to reactivate the Qing Dynasty Zhen Kiln and Gourd Kiln, The Song Dynasty Dragon-shaped Kiln and the Yuan Dynasty Steamed bun-shaped Kiln. The ancient kilns started to be replicated and reactivated as royal kilns during the Ming and Qing dynasties - Blue and White Kiln, Dragon Pattern Vat Kiln, Wind and Fire Kiln, Colour Glaze Kiln, Lanhuang Kiln and Sagger Kiln, all adding up to a wonderful experience for any visitor to the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln area, one of national 5A-level scenic spots in China. Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln has been an active protector and promoter of intangible world heritage - Jingdezhen's handmade porcelain making skills and traditional kiln techniques.
