As part of the one-day celebration, Margaritaville will host Margaritaville University, a complimentary margarita-making class from 3pm to 4pm. At the university, Margaritaville bartenders will teach students how to make specialty Margaritaville margaritas. After mastering mixing, shaking, stirring and sipping, all graduates will receive a diploma.
In addition to the complimentary drink lessons, Margaritaville locations are inviting guests in for their new tradition, The National Margarita Day Toast. At 5 O'Clock Somewhere, a Master of Ceremonies will lead those gathered in a toast to the official beverage of Margaritaville.
Fun margarita-related facts:
- Margaritaville restaurants served over 4 million margaritas last year alone.
- The 1918 flu epidemic created a huge surge in Tequila sales as doctors advised ailing patients to drink the spirit with lime and salt. (Note to self, good to know our margaritas can be used for medicinal purposes!)
- The southern states account for over 60 percent of all U.S. margarita sales.
For the fourth year, Margaritaville restaurants are encouraging their Facebook fans to participate in the national margarita recipe contest by submitting their favorite recipes. The winning concoction will be served on National Margarita Day at all Margaritaville restaurant locations in the U.S. through the end of the month. To become a Facebook fan visit: www.facebook.com/Margaritaville. The winning margarita recipe will be announced on February 15th and featured on Margaritaville's website and Facebook fan page.
