WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning animal advocate and bestselling author Jill Rappaport, who is best-known as a correspondent on NBC, announced today that America's first national humane organization, American Humane Association, is now joining forces with other leading animal welfare organizations through Jill Rappaport's Pies 4 Paws™, an exciting campaign to raise funds and awareness for animal welfare. Jill Rappaport's Pies 4 Paws™ is a fun community challenge where animal advocates from around the world can join in by taking a pie in face or eating it to raise funds for the Association.
First launched with the ASPCA, Jill Rappaport's Pies 4 Paws™ encourages community based groups, schools, and families to participate, joining Ms. Rappaport and many others, to raise funds for animals in crisis. It's easy to do – simply get a group together, get a few pies, and let the fun begin! Be sure to take photos and upload to social media with the hashtag #JillRappaportsPies4Paws and then make a donation online to American Humane Association. Then challenge your friends to do the same. The funds raised will support American Humane Association's Humane Intervention™ programs, to include the Association's legendary Red Star® Rescue and Second Chance® grant funds.
Ms. Rappaport's advocacy for animals began with her dog Jack who transformed her life and career forever. In 2006 after her beloved German Shepherd was diagnosed with bone cancer, she covered his valiant battle on the TODAY Show. His story touched people all over the world, and Jack became the "Ambassadog of Hope" for animal cancer. At that point Ms. Rappaport knew her true calling was to raise awareness for all things animals, and she went to her TODAY Show Executive producer, and said "stars don't need my help, animals do." From that day on Ms. Rappaport went from entertainment reporter to animal advocate, and she is now considered the voice for the voiceless-working tirelessly to make a difference for animals in need, by shining a light on shelters across America.
Her beloved award-winning segment "Bow To Wow," which featured shelter animals getting a makeover and a second chance for life ran, ran for more than six years and had a perfect 100 percent adoption record. Ms. Rappaport has transformed her passion into purpose – all to raise awareness and funds for rescue and adoption.
Early next year she will launch her much-anticipated "Best in Shelter with Jill Rappaport" primetime show, of which she is the creator, executive producer and host, and she promises it is going to be "Westminster for shelter pets and a game-changer for animals in need."
Ms. Rappaport is the proud pet parent of five rescue dogs and seven horses, whom she calls her "fur angels" and lives on a farm in Watermill, New York.
"American Humane Association applauds Jill, as she is encouraging everyone to make a difference by participating in Jill Rappaport's Pies 4 Paws™ campaign," said American Humane Association President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert. "I encourage everyone to take a pie today, make a donation at www.americanhumane.org, and save a life! Animals everywhere will be forever grateful."
