Jiffy Lube® Annual MUSCLE UP!® Campaign Benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association hits the $6 million mark
Funds Raised Help Send Kids with Muscle Disease to MDA Summer Camp
CHICAGO, Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) announced that Jiffy Lube service centers have raised more than $600,000 nationwide during its annual MUSCLE UP!® campaign, which ran throughout the month of August to support MDA. This year's campaign brings the total to an impressive $6 million raised for MDA over the course of the seven-year partnership between the two organizations. The funds raised will help send kids with muscle disease to MDA Summer Camp, while transforming the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.
"MDA is proud to have a strong partner like Jiffy Lube as we continue to find urgently needed treatments and cures for these life-threatening diseases that severely limit strength and mobility," said MDA President and CEO Lynn O'Connor Vos. "We are in unprecedented times with the speed of drug development and services our families desperately need so our thanks to the franchisees, service center employees and customers who help us so we can continue to do that. And we look forward to continuing our partnership with Jiffy Lube for years to come."
During the month of August, Jiffy Lube customers are invited to make a donation of $3 or more to MDA at participating locations in support of MDA programs and services, which includes helping send more than 250 kids to MDA summer camp. In return, donors receive a MUSCLE UP!® savings book containing more than $100 in savings from Jiffy Lube and other national retailers.
"We appreciate the support of our Jiffy Lube franchisees, their employees and our customers who continue to express their enthusiasm and passion for MDA, " said Denny Reiner, director of marketing for Jiffy Lube International, Inc. "Jiffy Lube is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work."
The MUSCLE UP!® campaign draws a parallel between the body's muscular system and a vehicle's engine structure – both require care and maintenance to optimize their performance and ensure safety and comfort.
Funds raised from the annual campaign help MDA and its life-enhancing programs to support families nationwide in ways such as MDA summer camp, otherwise known as, "the best week of the year." It's a free week-long camp that provides opportunities for kids living with neuromuscular diseases to discover new interests, gain self-confidence and experience the independence of being away from home in an environment where barriers do not exist. The funds will also support more than 150 state-of-the-art medical care centers, cutting edge research and support groups.
