BOSTON, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), Boston's largest carrier, today begins four daily flights between Boston's Logan International Airport and Newark's Liberty International Airport, complementing its existing schedule of frequent daily flights between Boston and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The new service will bring JetBlue's low-fare competition into a notoriously high-fare market. Since JetBlue announced plans to serve the Boston-Newark market, the lowest walk-up fare has dropped more than 75 percent (a).

"We're excited to dramatically lower prices on this route by bringing our industry-leading product to the market and providing the great JetBlue service and product our customers have come to expect of us," said Dave Clark, Director of Network Planning. "Our exceptional product and low fares allow us to continue growing our position as Boston's #1 carrier, serving more nonstop destinations and carrying more travelers than any other airline."
"We are delighted to see JetBlue's continued growth in Boston. We wish JetBlue's crew and passengers great success on their new route," said Boston's Mayor, Thomas M. Menino.
"I congratulate JetBlue and its partners on adding Newark as a destination, providing our residents and travelers with greater choices at Newark Liberty International Airport," said Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker. "JetBlue knows what the rest of the nation is learning – that Newark is dramatically transforming itself into a destination of choice, and a hub for business expansion."
In 2010, the average airfare paid by travelers in the Boston - Newark market was $291 one-way, a price that is higher than the average fare paid by Boston travelers on any of the six coast-to-coast routes operated by JetBlue from Logan, according to statistics from the United States Department of Transportation.
