TAMPA, Fla., March 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- TrueCore Behavioral Solutions, a multi-state operator of at-risk-youth residential facilities and outpatient services, has named Dr. Jennifer Hixson as director of education for TrueCore's Tennessee programs. Hixson is a doctor of psychology, a licensed psychologist and a licensed school psychologist, as well as having a strong background in applied behavior analysis. TrueCore operates five programs in the state of Tennessee.
Most recently, Hixson was the corporate clinical director for Perimeter Healthcare for more than four years. She has also maintained a part-time private practice as a trauma consultant, service provider, adjunct faculty member and trainer for almost nine years. In addition to a strong compliance background both clinically and educationally, she brings a solid foundation of threading trauma-sensitive care into systems working with today's youth. Employed in settings from outpatient care to acute psychiatric hospitalization, she has acquired credentials as a Certified Family Trauma Professional (CFTP) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). She is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers and specializes in working with youth with problem sexual behaviors.
"We are pleased to add a leader of Jennifer's credentials, knowledge and experience to our Tennessee services," said Steve Tomlin, TrueCore's CEO and president. "We believe this addition will better serve the youth in our care both educationally and clinically as we set the culture of care across the spectrum of services delivered."
Blending her clinical skills into the education realm, she has worked half her career in school settings both as an administrator and a school psychologist. Her educational experiences range from the director of special education for a Texas charter school, to public-school settings working with students from early intervention through high school.
"I am honored and excited to join the TrueCore family," said Hixson. "In looking at where I'd like to leave my mark in society, I have landed on 'rerouting the school-to-prisons pipeline through trauma sensitive schooling.' I could not have been invited into a stronger organization to pursue this endeavor and help pave the road to prosperity for our struggling youth."
She earned a doctorate of psychology in general clinical psychology from Alliant International University in San Francisco, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.
Hixson was also a noncommissioned officer in the United States Army and the United States National Guard. She finished her military career as a chief legal supervisor in the National Guard providing legal support to the group commander and legal assistance to subordinate units. In the Army she was a legal specialist preparing legal correspondence, supporting a criminal law section and running a criminal defense office.
