Jennifer Garner and Frigidaire® Team Up To Offer a Lesson in Eating Fresh This Summer
Partnership with Gowalla Gives Families the Chance to "Check In" at Farmer's Markets Nationwide to Support Save the Children's U.S. Programs
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer's bounty has arrived and Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner are teaming up to help families make the most of it.
Today, Garner joined parents and children for a lesson in eating fresh. The farm fresh cooking experience was led by Adam Kaye, chef and kitchen director at Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant, a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement. Together, they kicked off the Frigidaire Kids' Cooking Academy Summer Session, giving families the chance to learn about the seasonality of food and gain first-hand experience preparing just-picked ingredients.
"I'm a huge fan and avid supporter of my local Farmer's Market," said Garner. "Showing kids how foods go from farm to table is an important first step in creating healthy eating habits. The Frigidaire Summer School is a great way to educate kids and their parents about the importance of eating fresh."
To help give more children access to fresh foods, Frigidaire is unveiling a partnership with Gowalla (www.gowalla.com), a social media guide for people on the go. Frigidaire has called on Gowalla's diverse community of Passport Holders to go beyond the traditional "check in" and share their favorite Farmers' Market locations, memories, photos and stories as part of the partnership. Starting today, when users check-in at their local Farmer's Market, Frigidaire will make a $1 donation to Save the Children, as part of its $500,000 commitment to the cause (1).
"We're proud to be partnering with Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner to raise awareness for such an important and mobilizing issue," said Andy Ellwood, director of business development at Gowalla. "We're working together with our community to encourage people to participate and show their support for Save the Children. It truly embodies Gowalla's philanthropic mission, and is a great example of using social media for social good."
Save the Children's Senior Vice President of U.S. Programs, Mark Shriver praised the campaign for helping to give every child an opportunity to develop healthy eating habits.
"Save the Children's CHANGE program is working to provide children living in poverty in rural America with access to nutritious snacks, like fresh fruits and whole grains, and opportunities to get some healthy exercise. With continued support from Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner, we're helping give children the foundation they need for a lifetime of good health."
People can also make a commitment to eat fresh at Frigidaire.com to trigger a donation (1). Plus, they'll be automatically entered for a chance to win a new Frigidaire Gallery® French Door Refrigerator (2).
For busy parents, it can be difficult to ensure fresh, seasonal ingredients are on hand. But a little planning and preparation goes a long way.
"Serving farm-fresh meals every day can be a challenge," said Marty O'Gorman, General Manager of Frigidaire. "But with the right appliances, you can be sure that your family eats fresh. Like our French Door Refrigerators, which feature Effortless™ Glide Crisper Drawers that keep your seasonal fruits and veggies fresh and easily accessible."
The refrigerator's Fits-More™ Capacity offers more usable space inside, same space on the outside, so you can find a place for everything. Plus, the PureAir Ultra® Filters keep the air in the refrigerator clean and fresh. Frigidaire also offers a full line of cooking appliances designed to make it easy for you to prepare great meals in less time and with less effort.
The entire new Frigidaire appliance line is available nationwide at select independent appliance dealers and at Best Buy, Lowe's and Sears.
