CHICAGO, Dec. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Jenner & Block has elected 13 lawyers across offices to the partnership, effective January 1, 2018. The group of eight women and five men come from across offices and practice areas, bringing to the partnership and clients additional experience in a wide range of complex and sophisticated litigation, counseling and transactional matters.

- Clifford W. Berlow is a member of the firm's Appellate and Supreme Court Practice. He has argued more than 20 appeals in representations before the Illinois Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and all five districts of the Illinois Appellate Court. In addition, he has authored more than 100 briefs in state and federal courts, including more than a dozen briefs and petitions in the Supreme Court of the United States, two of which were given Supreme Court Best Brief awards by the National Association of Attorneys General. In addition to his traditional appellate work, Mr. Berlow has significant experience developing legal strategy in trial courts and has participated in successful representations in matters spanning the energy, financial services, media, pharmaceutical, technology, telecommunications, and transportation sectors in cases presenting difficult questions of constitutional, statutory and regulatory law. Before joining the firm, Mr. Berlow served for four years in the civil appeals division of the Illinois Attorney General's office. He graduated cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law.
- Christine M. Bowman is a member of the Complex Commercial, Employment Law, Health Care, and Securities Practices. She represents clients at the state, federal, and appellate levels, both in criminal and civil matters. Ms. Bowman has significant experience handling internal investigations involving corporate compliance, employment issues, FCPA, health care fraud, securities fraud, and consumer fraud. In that capacity, she has represented clients in front of various governmental entities, including the SEC, Department of Justice, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Federal Trade Commission, and Congress. Ms. Bowman has twice been seconded to the in-house legal departments of multi-national corporations, providing day-to-day legal advice on litigation, corporate compliance and employment matters. Ms. Bowman received her B.A., cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Indiana University. She received her J.D., cum laude and Order of the Barristers, from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she served as president of the Moot Court Board and a member of the school's nationally ranked National Trial Team.
- Jason M. Bradford, a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice, is an experienced litigator in federal and state courts and counsels clients on complex business litigation matters, as well as internal corporate and government investigations. Mr. Bradford has also undertaken a wide range of pro bono representation, including obtaining a pardon for a woman convicted of manslaughter, winning the release of a man who spent more than 27 years in prison following federal habeas proceedings and litigating small claims on behalf of indigent clients. He earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, and his B.A. from Emory University.
- Penelope P. Campbell is a member of the firm's Real Estate Practice. Ms. Campbell advises lenders, borrowers, corporations, universities, real estate developers and investors in a wide variety of complex commercial real estate transactions, including real property acquisitions and dispositions, office, industrial, commercial and retail leases, sale leasebacks, real estate financings, construction issues and real estate aspects of corporate stock and asset sales. Before joining Jenner & Block, she worked for more than seven years as a press secretary for Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White. She continues to advise The Jesse White Foundation on a pro bono basis, including the financing, development and construction of the recently opened Jesse White Community Center and Field House on Chicago's near north side. Ms. Campbell graduated cum laude from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law with magna cum laude distinction.
- Jeremy A. Casper, a member of the firm's Corporate Department, advises public and private clients in mergers and stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, as well as private and public securities offerings. He handles cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, including the representation of Schneider Electric in its $1.25 billion acquisition of ASCO Power, a leading manufacturer of automatic transfer switches. He has also conducted a variety of securities offerings and other transactions, including public debt and equity offerings, private placements, exchange offers and spin-offs. Mr. Casper represented Hertz Global Holdings in the $2 billion spinoff of its HERC equipment rental business and represented The Hertz Corporation in multiple Rule 144A note offerings and related exchange offers. In addition, he regularly counsels clients on Exchange Act periodic reporting requirements and proxy statements, as well as joint venture transactions, venture capital transactions and corporate governance matters. Mr. Casper graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law with High Distinction and as a member of the Order of the Coif. He earned his A.B. from Bowdoin College, magna cum laude.
- Brienne M. Letourneau is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, Class Action and ERISA Litigation Practices. She litigates and advises clients in a number of areas, including class action defense, ERISA, higher education, consumer law, insurance coverage, professional malpractice, contract disputes and business torts. Ms. Letourneau has represented clients as plaintiffs and defendants in every phase of litigation before state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution and arbitral tribunals throughout the country. She has won a number of dispositive motions in a variety of cases, including dismissal with prejudice of several putative consumer and ERISA class actions and summary judgment in multiple insurance coverage matters. She also maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing on representing clients in civil rights actions, and has been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers as a "Rising Star" in business litigation each year since 2014. Ms. Letourneau graduated from Harvard Law School, where she served as a student attorney with the Title IX Clinic. She earned her B.A. with Highest Honors and Highest Distinction from the University of North Carolina.
- Jennifer S. Senior practices complex civil litigation, concentrating on high-stakes contract disputes, securities law, class action defense and insurance coverage litigation. Ms. Senior also counsels clients on securities investigations and responding to shareholder demands for corporate books and records. Her insurance coverage work focuses on directors and officers liability, commercial general liability, property and business interruption insurance, specialty risk policies, construction-related disputes and policy renewals. Ms. Senior represents clients in state and federal court, as well as in arbitrations and mediations. In her pro bono practice, she counsels non-profit organizations on insurance coverage issues and represents human trafficking victims seeking to recover unpaid wages, as well as prisoners seeking to enforce their constitutional rights. Ms. Senior is a delegate to The Coalition of Women's Initiatives in Law. She graduated from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as an article editor of the University of Chicago Legal Forum and represented juveniles as a student lawyer at the Edwin F. Mandel Legal Aid Clinic Criminal and Juvenile Justice Project. Ms. Senior earned her B.A. from Cornell University.
- Sarah F. Weiss, a member of the Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice, focuses her practice on internal and government-initiated investigations, corporate compliance counseling and individual criminal defense. She has extensive experience in the areas of anti-money laundering regulation and the Bank Secrecy Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, financial fraud and the Clean Water Act. Ms. Weiss' experience spans a broad spectrum of industries, including the automotive, banking, healthcare, gaming, environmental services and construction industries. She regularly offers compliance counseling to companies engaged in remediation in parallel to investigations, or as part of a monitorship, in the United States and abroad. Ms. Weiss has also represented clients in complex civil litigation and arbitrations. Her pro bono practice focuses on individual criminal defense in the state trial courts. - James Woolrich joined Jenner & Block in July 2016 as special counsel and is a solicitor advocate with a broad commercial practice encompassing international arbitration and complex litigation for corporate and banking clients. Mr. Woolrich acts for clients domestically as well as in numerous offshore jurisdictions including the British Virgin Islands, the Isle of Man, Cyprus and India. He has substantial experience of applying for post judgment/award enforcement measures as well as dealing with the related jurisdictional issues which commonly arise. He has also acted in a number of institutional and ad hoc international arbitrations (commercial and investment treaty). Mr. Woolrich has spoken and published in the areas of private international law, international arbitration, civil procedure and the law of obligations. - David C. Lachman is a litigator whose practice focuses on representing corporations and individuals in high-stakes government enforcement actions and internal investigations, with a particular emphasis on complex cross-border matters. He currently plays a key role in monitoring Credit Suisse AG following the bank's $715 million settlement with the New York Department of Financial Services, part of a broader $2.6 billion settlement with US authorities, and he has significant experience representing multinational corporations in anti-corruption and other investigations involving their operations in Latin America. In addition, Mr. Lachman has successfully represented media, technology and pharmaceutical companies in a wide range of "bet-the-company" litigation in federal and state courts. - Laura P. MacDonald is a litigator who focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, financial services litigation and international arbitration. Ms. MacDonald represents companies in complex commercial disputes and class actions spanning a broad range of industries and substantive areas. In addition to litigation, she has significant experience representing clients in domestic and international commercial arbitrations as well as investor-state arbitrations conducted under AAA, ICC, UNCITRAL and Norwegian rules. Her work also involves counseling and representing companies and individuals in regulatory matters, including before the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition, Ms. MacDonald maintains an active pro bono practice, which has ranged from representing an incarcerated person in a civil rights jury trial to obtaining political asylum for a mother and son in removal proceedings. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, where she served as managing editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. - Emily M. Loeb represents companies and institutions facing multi-faceted government investigations and provides strategic advice for clients through each stage of an investigation and during adjacent litigation. Ms. Loeb also counsels entities and individuals involved in hearings and investigations before the United States Congress, including preparing witnesses, defending depositions and interviews, and managing the response to information requests. As a member of the firm's the Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice and the Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice, she oversees teams carrying out financial sector monitorship appointments to ensure compliance with settlement agreements. Ms. Loeb joined Jenner & Block after more than six years in senior positions in the Executive Branch. Most recently, she served as an associate counsel in the Office of the White House Counsel. Previously, Ms. Loeb served in several roles at the US Department of Justice, including senior counselor and acting chief of staff for the Civil Rights Division, where she received the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service in 2014 for her work on the team charged with implementing the Supreme Court's decision in United States v. Windsor. In 2012, she served as a special assistant US attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she prosecuted federal drug and wire fraud cases. - Devi M. Rao, a member of the Appellate and Supreme Court Practice, represents businesses and government entities in complex commercial litigation and civil, constitutional, and regulatory matters in the appellate and trial courts. Ms. Rao's practice spans a wide variety of matters, including media, content, and communications issues, consumer class actions, and challenges to administrative actions, and she has presented oral argument in the trial courts as well as arguments in the federal courts of appeals. This past year, Ms. Rao served as part of a trial team that successfully advocated for increased copyright royalty rates for record companies and artists before the Copyright Royalty Board. Ms. Rao maintains an active pro bono practice, including submitting amicus briefs on behalf of medical and mental health organizations in a variety of cases involving discrimination against transgender individuals. She clerked for Judge M. Margaret McKeown of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the US Supreme Court. Ms. Rao received her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review.
