Jeff Crandall Honored With SAE International Arnold W. Siegel International Transportation Safety Award
WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Jeff Crandall, Nancy and Neal Wade Professor of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia, was honored with the SAE International Arnold W. Siegel International Transportation Safety Award during the SAE 2012 World Congress held in Detroit.
Established in 1987, this award recognizes individuals whose accomplishments include outstanding international research, innovation and contributions to crash injury protection, crash injury biomechanics and crash injury design for all mobility vehicles. Nominees are leaders in their fields who have made a significant transportation safety impact on their organizations or on society worldwide.
The award is named after Arnold W. Siegel, an SAE International fellow who's pioneering research in crash injury has contributed to modern crashworthy transportation vehicles and to the understanding of human tolerance in collisions.
In his current role, Crandall is a professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department and director for the university's Center for Applied Biomechanics. He is actively involved in research projects on human body modeling, injury criteria development, crash investigations and advanced restraint evaluations.
He has co-authored more than 500 conference and journal publications and has received numerous awards including the U.S. Government Award for Engineering Excellence. Crandall is a fellow of SAE and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine and serves as current president of the International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury.
