JDSU Adds Industry's Most Comprehensive Triple-Play Service Quality Test Suite to Access Field Testers
MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --JDSU today announced the industry's most comprehensive triple-play service quality test suite for the HST-3000 Handheld Services Tester and T-BERD/MTS-4000 Multiple Services Test Platform. Using the JDSU Class of Service (CoS) test suite software option, field technicians can simulate real-world triple-play service use at the customer site, enabling the most effective analysis and troubleshooting of triple-play services running at the same time.
Traditionally, triple-play service testing involves separate, isolated actions – performing data tests, making VoIP calls, or checking IPTV channels. Today's challenge is that triple-play services are generally not used serially, particularly in the home: one person may be watching television while another person is downloading a large file and yet another person is talking over the VoIP line – at the same time. Each application has its own specific Quality-of-Service requirements and all have varying bandwidth demands, and competing demands may affect the quality of individual services.
Testing individual applications may not reveal problems seen when mixed application traffic flows are present, making the JDSU CoS test suite ideally suited for the turn-up of new services. The CoS test suite can eliminate service call backs related to problems that are not possible to detect using only single-application testing.
"Service providers worldwide offer truly innovative triple-play services to their customers, but the paradox is that many are facing service issues associated with the demand for these groundbreaking, high-bandwidth offerings," said Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "The JDSU CoS test suite helps service providers meet the quality demands of their customers and ensure reliable triple-play services by allowing a technician to perfectly replicate and troubleshoot customer environments. Adding the innovative CoS test suite to an already strong set of JDSU triple-play products also helps reduce operational expenses and increase revenue."
Specifically, the JDSU CoS test suite enables the simultaneous testing of multiple services running over multiple VLANs at the same time. During the test, technicians are able to view all of the services in use but also a graphical depiction of bandwidth across all of them. This helps the technician identify and resolve environments where one service may be impacting the performance of another. The new features also enable on/off control of all services – from one screen. The technician is therefore able to do exactly what the customer may be doing, offering an ideal test/traffic simulation and troubleshooting environment.
