JCRC Condemns Holocaust Reference in Abortion Debate
FAIRFAX, Va., Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week, Virginia State Senator Dick Black likened legal abortion to the suffering of victims of Nazi Germany and Auschwitz. The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington condemns this disturbing trend among elected officials and other public leaders to utilize the Holocaust as a reference point for their personal political agendas. The abuse of Holocaust imagery to score political points is outrageous and offensive to the millions of men, women and children who were brutalized and murdered during the Holocaust and to the millions of soldiers and citizens who sacrificed to defeat the Nazi regime. We call on Senator Black to retract this statement and apologize and urge our elected officials to adhere to standards of decency and civility in their public debates, to avoid inflaming passions with offensive and blatantly manipulative references and to chose substantive and relevant points in supporting their arguments for public policy.
