JBI Calls for Release of Senate Study on CIA Detention and Interrogation

NEW YORK, May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In advance of tonight's HBO documentary, Manhunt, AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights (JBI) is calling for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence to release its study of the CIA's post 9/11 detention and interrogation program.

"Releasing the Senate Committee's study would send an important message that the U.S. is committed to upholding its international law obligations under the UN Convention against Torture, including the development of national security policies based on facts," said JBI Director Felice Gaer. At a pre-screening of Manhunt, which tells the story of the CIA's two-decade search for Osama bin Laden, Gaer asked three former CIA employees intimately involved in the search for bin Laden whether they and the intelligence community support release of the Senate study.

Nada Bakos and Cindy Storer (featured in Manhunt as among the first CIA officers to pinpoint intelligence that proved the existence of al-Qaeda and bin Laden as its leader) and Philip Mudd (former Deputy Director of the CIA Counter Terrorism Center), all stated that it is important to inform the American public about what the CIA did following 9/11.

The pre-screening took place at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
