JBF Global Ambassadors Head to Haiti for Urgent Hurricane Matthew Relief Effort
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) and its Global Ambassadors delegation are embarking to Haiti today to assist on the ground with the critically needed emergency relief efforts to support the thousands of Haitians displaced by Hurricane Matthew, the catastrophic Category 4 storm that left Haiti in another state of massive devastation on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
JBF Worldwide Founder and United Nations Ambassador for Peace & Sport, Jack Brewer, joined by fellow JBF Global Ambassador/Haitian native World Champion boxer, Andre Berto, and JBF board member and longtime supporter, Chris Cottone, will be traveling to deliver thousands of dollars in urgently needed medical supplies collected from initial donations made through JBF's Haiti Emergency Relief Campaign.
Additionally, the group will pay visit to the children at the Hope Centre – one of JBF's supported orphanages in Cité Soleil - the Haitian Initiative youth soccer clinic and feeding program and a cancer center in Port-au-Prince, as well as continue to assess the damage throughout the nation for future ongoing reconstruction efforts.
Since visiting Haiti on one of the first flights following the devastating earthquake of 2010 and founding the "One Team 4 Haiti" campaign uniting influencers and players associations from all major sports leagues including the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB, Mr. Brewer has been spearheading regular ongoing trips to help rebuild the country as part of JBF Worldwide's Global Ambassadors Program, which aims to connect influential individuals to philanthropic organizations while traveling the world to make positive impacts in communities in need.
"I consider Haiti my second home, and I am beyond devastated that the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere has to once again prove its resiliency by fighting through yet another horrific natural disaster while still recovering from the 2010 earthquake," stated Ambassador Brewer. "In addition to the rising death toll, reports from our partners' assessments on the ground indicate that there has been an estimated 1,000+ cases of cholera and up to 500,000 people have not been reached and are still stranded without access to basic supplies due to the bridges and streets being washed away. Numerous accounts of trucks carrying aid have been looted.
I will continue to do everything in my power, alongside our partners, supporters and global network, to bring desperately needed resources as we continue to rebuild this resilient nation."
Immediately following the storm, JBF Worldwide launched its Haiti Emergency Relief Campaign to fund raise, collect and deliver life-saving goods and aid, and has been working alongside the foundation's various partners and influencers both in Haiti and the U.S. including: YesJulz, Greentree Financial Group, Wellmax Medical Center and others. 100% of all funds raised will be given directly to JBF's Haitian partners and civilians on the ground.
"Along the entire west coast, 90% of buildings—including homes, schools, and clinics have been destroyed," explains Dr. Vincent DeGennaro of Innovating Health International. "This is the same situation for the entire area from Port Salut to Jeremie. No water, extreme hunger, no shelter, and people dying from a lack of basic healthcare as no one can get to them by road. This is an absolutely shocking crisis."
JBF and its partners have already helped with the funding and distribution of 15,000 pounds of food to those in need and plan to donate another 15,000+ pounds during this week's visit. During their visit, the delegation will continue to join efforts with JBF's partners on the ground including Innovating Health International, The Hope Centre and the Sanneh Foundation's Haitian Initiative, to deliver desperately needed aid to thousands of Haitians in dire need including: emergency kits, food, water, medicines and medical supplies throughout Port-au-Prince, Cité Soleil and areas of the southern region hit hardest by the storm such as Les Anglais, Port Salut, Les Cayes and Jeremie.
