LOS ANGELES, March 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (TS Alliance) announced today that Jay Mohr, comedian, actor and best-selling author, will headline its 19th Annual Comedy for a Cure®. The event brings together top comedians to raise funds for those impacted by the rare genetic disorder tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), which affects more than 50,000 in the United States and 1 million worldwide. The event will be held at the Academy LA in Hollywood on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 5 p.m.
This year's lineup includes headliner Jay Mohr and additional performances by Kira Soltanovich and Adam Ray. Mohr, who has been performing since he was 16 years old, is a comedian, actor and best-selling author. Comedy Central named him one of the 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time.
The event is emceed by long time TS Alliance supporters Jim O'Heir from Parks and Recreation and Bless This Mess, Alex Skuby from The Fosters and King of Queens, and comedian Craig Shoemaker. The event is also supported by members of the Comedian Committee, Kate Flannery from The Office, Mo Collins from Fear the Walking Dead, John Henson from ABC's Wipeout, Melissa Peterman from Reba, Shane Brady from Doctor Sleep, and Wendy Liebman, actor and comedian. Notable attendees from prior years include Chelsea Handler, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jane Lynch, Bill Maher, Julianne Moore, Bob Saget, Patricia Heaton, and others.
During the event, the TS Alliance will honor The Carroll Family with the Courage in Leadership Award, while also paying tribute to Dr. Shafali Jeste of UCLA and Edina Kiss as the TS Alliance Champions for their outstanding service to combat TSC.
Comedy for a Cure has raised nearly $5 million toward finding a cure for TSC, providing support and information to anyone impacted by the disease, funding necessary research and raising visibility of the disorder. TSC is a rare, genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in vital organs and is the leading genetic cause of both autism and epilepsy.
