A dedicated researcher and physician, Dr. Cook was named a Top Neurologist by IAHCP in 2017. Over the course of several decades, Dr. Cook was selected as the recipient of various research grants in his areas of practice. Following a lifelong interest in neurology and neurosurgery, Dr. Cook received a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 1965 and MD from Duke University in 1968. During the next four years, he completed an internship in pediatrics, residency in pediatrics, residency in neurology and fellowship in pediatric neurology through the Duke University Health System. In addition, Dr. Cook has completed laboratory training in immunology through the National Cancer Institute and coursework in immunology through the National Institutes of Health. Since the inception of his career, Dr. Cook has been recognized as a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and American Board of Pediatrics. He has been licensed to practice in Maryland, North Carolina and Texas.
Early in his career, Dr. Cook joined the National Institutes of Health as a clinical associate with the medical neurology branch of the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders. He went on to serve as a medical investigator for one year before accepting a position as an assistant professor with the department of pediatrics at Children's Health in 1976. For more than a decade, Dr. Cook served as the director of child neurology with the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Prior to his retirement in 2005, he was recognized as the interim director of child neurology with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he also served as a clinical professor of neurology.
Since 2006, Dr. Cook has maintained an active career as a consultant neurologist at Yuma Regional Medical Center at the CRS Clinic and Subspecialty Clinics. Dr. Cook previously acted as a physician reviewer for the National Medical Reviews between 2000 and 2001.
