Jason Van Der Slot Announces TP52 Association and Southern Cross Cup
Jason Van Der Slot announces founding Australian TP52 Association and the TP52 Southern Cross Cup.
NEW YORK, Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Jason Van Der Slot is pleased to announce his role in helping to form the Australian TP52 Association. He is also pleased to announce his founding of the TP52 Southern Cross Cup. His love of sailing, sailboats, and sailboat racing is no doubt inspired by the fact that Jason Van Der Slot was born and raised on the 26th largest island in the world, Tasmania. He says, "It is a good thing that I have always found myself so close to a coast, because I have always loved sailing. There is just something about it that speaks to me in a way that nothing else does."
Jason Van Der Slot has been involved with all kinds of races in Tasmania and Australia. One such race was the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. In that race, he sailed with a fellow teammate by the name of Ian "Barney" Walker who had competed 25 times in the race. Jason Van Der Slot said of Barney, "His skill and passion for sailing has led to him to do the 25 Hobarts races." Hobart is the state capital of Tasmania. It is also the largest city of Tasmania as well. Jason Van Der Slot loves living in Tasmania. He enjoys living in the "Island of Inspiration," as it is known, and appreciates the fact that Tasmania is a part of the Commonwealth of Australia. The reason for this is that this gives him the opportunity to sail with not only the fine yachtsmen of Tasmania, but those of Australia as well.
The close relationship that Tasmania shares with Australia means many good things for Jason Van Der Slot and his passion for sailing and racing. Mainly though, it helps him because he has a much larger audience for the organizations and races that he has helped to put together. Initially, those sailors who owned the TP52, otherwise known as the Transpac 52 class yacht, only had a loose organization to celebrate their passions. It was essentially a group of members in a non-registered club of yachtsmen who all enjoyed sailing on the TP52. The TP52 yacht is generally known for competitive racing. With that, Jason Van Der Slot, among others, decided it was time to make things official. Together, the impassioned group contributed to transforming the group into a registered and ISAF approved Class. This Class is fully controlled by its members. They have a Class President as well as an Executive Committee that helps to create and enforce specialized bylaws. The group is for those who enjoy sailing in their TP52 yachts, but who do not participate in Class Events. They are, however, authorized and encouraged to help promote TP52 racing.
Eventually, Jason Van Der Slot wanted something more. His passion for sailboat racing led him to organize a new kind of TP52 race. This race is known as the TP52 Southern Cross Cup. The race has become quite popular. Many sailors actually believe that this is the future of sailboat racing due to the shorter duration of the race.
