Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to Automate Indexing of 90 Journals in SciVerse Scopus
AMSTERDAM, February 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Elsevier and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) have reached a new agreement for the automated delivery of the metadata of 90 J-STAGE journals in SciVerse Scopus, reflecting the mutual commitment of Elsevier and JST to the global dissemination of scientific research.
"SciVerse Scopus continues to improve indexing peer-reviewed literature, building a global, reliable database. This agreement between Elsevier and JST sets a good example of worldwide recognition of Japanese academic journals," said Ms. Mikiko Tanifuji, General Manager of the Scientific Information Office and Publishing Director of Science and Technology of Advanced Materials at the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan. Ms. Tanifuji sits on the Content Selection Advisory Board for SciVerse Scopus.
JST has been utilizing Scopus custom data to analyze scientific research in Japan at a national level. The indexing of J-STAGE journals in SciVerse Scopus builds upon Elsevier's existing cooperation with JST and will extend further exposure to the research published within those titles to the global academic community. Metadata from J-STAGE will continuously and automatically be indexed within SciVerse Scopus with immediate effect.
"I believe that SciVerse Scopus can make articles on J-STAGE much more visible globally," said Yoshiyuki Miyagawa, Manager, Group of Electronic Journals within the Department of Databases for Information and Knowledge Infrastructure at JST. He added that the uptake of data from J-STAGE to SciVerse Scopus will be made much easier under this new agreement: "It will be a good start for the future relationship between Elsevier and JST as well."
J-STAGE was developed in 1999 to encourage Japanese research societies to publish their academic journals electronically on a central platform. As the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, SciVerse Scopus magnifies the mission of J-STAGE to disseminate published research within those journals at a targeted, global level.
