James Packer Joins Payment Fraud Prevention Leader SignatureLink, Inc. as COO, General Counsel
RIDGELAND, Miss., July 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- E-commerce stabilizer SignatureLink, Inc. has named Utah attorney James Packer to succeed Greg Stamatis, now president of the company, as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Packer will also serve as general counsel.
Packer comes to SignatureLink from merchant advocate and payments best practices firm Merchant Lifeline, LLC, where, as corporate legal counsel and director of operations, he spent five years managing a team of chargeback recovery specialists and fraud risk analysts interacting with clients, consumers, processors and credit/debit networks.
That experience is directly relevant to the work Packer will undertake at SignatureLink, affirmed CEO Greg Wooten, in light of SignatureLink's focus on protecting card-not-present (CNP) and e-commerce merchants from online payment fraud in all of its forms -- including "friendly fraud," where the customer makes a purchase online, receives the merchandise, and then disputes or cancels the transaction. "Friendly fraud" literally amounts to cybershoplifiting.
The SignatureLink SecureBuy™ Suite gives merchants an end-to-end fraud protection and chargeback management solution, and as the company develops new products to complement virtual electronic signature pad SignatureLink CNPS™ and the SignatureLink TransExam™ Chargeback Management System, Packer's legal expertise and strong executive background "will be invaluable to the SignatureLink executive management team and clients alike," Wooten noted.
Prior to joining Merchant Lifeline, Packer was a partner in a law firm practicing bank card, intellectual property, securities regulation, real estate, land use, corporate tax, partnership tax, estate planning, business planning, mergers and acquisitions, contract and corporate law. He spent his earlier professional career as the director of operations at companies in the manufacturing and software industries.
Packer is licensed to practice law in Utah, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Utah and the Supreme Court of the State of Utah. Packer is a member in good standing with the Utah State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Utah Trial Lawyers Association, Order of the Barristers, and Phi Alpha Delta.
