CLEVELAND, Miss., May 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mississippi State's Jake Mangum became the first freshman to win the C Spire Ferriss Trophy by claiming the annual award Monday as Mississippi's best college baseball player.
Mangum, who led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in hitting with a .427 batting average for the SEC Champion Bulldogs, edged out teammates Dakota Hudson and Reid Humphreys, J.B. Woodman of Ole Miss and Will Robertson of Delta State to win the 2016 award.
The players and coaches were honored at a special awards luncheon co-hosted by C Spire and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, the hometown of award namesake and 94-year-old Mississippi baseball legend Dave "Boo" Ferriss.
