Jacob Urges Expediting Climate Action Museum In San Francisco As The UN Releases 2019 Climate Report
President and CEO of the BayEcotarium calls for expedited action from California to fast track the Climate and Ocean Conservation Living Museum initiative in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As the UN releases the 2019 Climate Report ahead of the Climate Week in NYC, George Jacob, President and CEO of the BayEcotarium urges expediency and legislative backing in California toward fast tracking of the proposed $260 million world-class Climate Action and Ocean Conservation Living Museum and Aquarium complex on San Francisco's Embarcadero waterfront. Visited by 15 million people from around the world each year, it is an ideal platform to spur awareness and action in one of the most progressive precincts that draws on the power of Silicon Valley's contribution to a fifth of the global economy. The museum will help spread awareness on the consequences of inaction, explore solutions and celebrate environmental heroes who have made a difference to the realm of the sustainable development goals and corporate social responsibility.
Jacob, who is also the Chief Advisor to the UN Environment on Climate Museum initiatives in the Caribbean region, has been working with a team of international experts for the last three years to master plan an environmental edifice unlike any other. The UN climate report highlights that global temperatures between 2015-19 were the highest ever recorded shooting up carbon emissions by 20% melting ice sheets causing up to 5 millimeters of sea level rise.
San Francisco hosted the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit last September and early this year joined other cities in declaring climate emergency and banning single use plastics with Mayor London Breed calling for bold action. Jacob unveiled the vision for a powerful climate and ocean conservation living museum transforming the existing Aquarium of The Bay with Dr. Jill Biden gracing the event last October.
