ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Common Application, a non-profit membership organization dedicated to access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process, announced today that the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will use the Common App's online application platform as the application system of record for its prestigious Cooke College Scholarship Program. This undergraduate scholarship program is available to exceptionally promising high school seniors. Each year, the free Common App platform serves more than one million students - one-third of whom are first-generation - applying to more than 800 member colleges and universities.
"Talented students with financial need encounter many obstacles while applying to selective colleges and universities," said Seppy Basili, the Foundation's executive director. "We're excited to streamline our application to ensure that students have more time to focus on the demands and deadlines of their college applications."
The College Scholarship Program, accepting applications through November 20, provides recipients with up to $40,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study. Cooke Scholars also receive college planning support, ongoing advising, and are welcomed into the thriving community of 2,500 fellow scholars and alumni. The Foundation received more than 5,000 completed applications last year and selected 106 Cooke Scholars.
Applicants must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above, and receive an SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1200 or above and/or an ACT composite score of 26 or above. Students must demonstrate financial need and be currently attending a U.S. high school at the time they submit their applications.
"The process of applying to both college and to scholarships can be time-consuming and stressful for applicants," said Jenny Rickard, President and CEO of The Common Application. "By enabling potential Cooke Scholars to complete their Common App and their Cooke Scholarship application at the same time, we hope to eliminate some of the barriers for students associated with managing multiple applications, and instead enable them to focus on presenting their best selves to prospective colleges and universities."
