IXP Corporation Announces Independent Audit Certifying Its System And Security Controls Meet AICPA Standards
PRINCETON, N.J., March 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- IXP Corporation, a prominent national public safety and emergency dispatch provider, announced that an independent audit certified that its system and design of controls meet standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The report examined controls relevant to security, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy.
The SOC 2® Type 1 audit, based on guidelines by the AICPA, was conducted by Hill, Barth & King LLC (HBK), an independent auditor. This type of assessment ensures that client data is effectively safeguarded by IXP's systems and controls, and that industry best practices frameworks are efficiently implemented.
"IXP has built further trust and confidence into its service delivery by obtaining this verification, which attests to the design and operating effectiveness of our controls," said William Metro, chairman and chief executive officer of IXP Corporation. "We have made a substantial commitment to undergo this type of internal assessment with ongoing testing and verification by our independent auditor, to meet the standards established by the AICPA relating to security, trust, and privacy services—assuring our clients that their data and privacy is well-protected."
He added, "This certification is not mandatory; we chose to obtain it to provide our clients with an even higher level of comfort with our partnership, risk management, and service delivery. Knowing that our company's systems and controls have been objectively evaluated by an independent, well-respected third party such as HBK strengthens the level of trust between our clients and IXP."
Michele Harlan, a principal in HBK's Princeton office, said, "A SOC 2 Type 1 audit clearly differentiates IXP from other service organizations that have not obtained this level of trust service verification. This assessment reports on the operational effectiveness of the controls that IXP has in place, thereby providing a significant independent validation of its services."
According to the AICPA, SOC 2 reports are intended for a broad range of corporations that need to understand internal control at a service organization as it relates to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy. The SOC 2 Type 1 reports on management's description of a service organization's system and the suitability of the design of controls.
Based on AICPA guidelines, the reports are intended for use by stakeholders (e.g., customers, regulators, business partners, suppliers, directors) of the service organization. They can form an important part of stakeholder oversight of the organization, vendor management program, internal corporate governance, and risk management processes.
